*Mumbai:* Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam today met with the Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Trimukhe demanding stringent legal actions against BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta regarding his involvement in the Jogeshwari land reservation case.

Sanjay Nirupam said, “No other official but BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta himself along with some senior officials from his team are responsible for the land scam worth Rs 500 crore. We have requested the police to treat Ajoy Mehta and these officials from his DP department as accused. Not just this, an innocent peon from the BMC Mr. Valmiki, who was in-charge of this particular file, has lost his life after he fell to death from a running train. We demand police investigation to find out whether it was an accident or a murder”.

“The actual owner of the land in question Mr. Gyanprakash Shukla had approached the High Court in 2014 when the BMC failed to claim the land in question 10 years after the acquisition period had ended. When the case reached High Court, not a single lawyer representing the civic body was present in the court that day. When the BMC lost this case in High Court, the BMC Commissioner stated that the civic body shouldn’t approach the Supreme Court in this case. When the BMC lost this piece of land worth Rs. 500 Crore after it lost this case in the Supreme Court, the BMC Commissioner put the entire blame on the civic body’s legal department accusing them of altering his notings on the file. This isn’t an issue of ‘mishandling’ the case. This is a clear conspiracy by the BMC Commissioner and senior officials in his team”, added Mr. Nirupam

While the DCP has requested a month’s time to investigate the entire case, Mr. Nirupam has stated that he, along with his party workers, will keep fighting until an FIR against the BMC Commissioner is filed, the BMC officials who are involved in this case are punished and justice is served.
