In their crackdown on GST evaders and operation of fraudulent organisations, the Mumbai Zonal Unit of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence [DGGI-MZU] recently arrested Amanpuneet Singh Kohli, Director of Immensa Multiventures Pvt. Ltd. and six other Companies under the provisions of the CGST Act, 2017. According to DGGI-MZU, Amanpuneet Singh Kohli is the brain behind for operating several firms in the guise of dummy Proprietors.

DGGI arrested Kohli for fraudulently availing and utilizing Input Tax Credit [ITC] on the basis of invoices received, without any original valid receipt or supply of goods or services for these firms.

In their statement DGGI-MZU aptly makes it clear that on the basis of extensive documentary evidences gathered amid the course of investigation, it was ascertained that Amanpuneet Singh Kohli was mastermind behind the said fraud, and had floated these 14 companies / firms with the sole intent to avail ineligible Input Tax Credit fraudulently. His and the company’s prime modus operandi was to obtain bogus invoices from shell companies located in Delhi & Mumbai in the name of the 14 firms operated by him, and avail ineligible Input Tax Credit on the strength of such invoices.
Reportedly, Amanpuneet Singh Kohli has allegedly accumulated ineligible ITC to the tune of approximately ₹35.11 Crores in his 14 firms’.

It comes to light that Amanpuneet Singh Kohli would encash this ITC by claiming export of goods, and thereafter obtain IGST Refund. The total quantum of IGST Refund obtained by Amanpuneet Singh Kohli is ₹17.09 Crores(approx).

DGGI-MZU, claims that during investigation, Amanpuneet Singh Kohli adopted a complete non-cooperative demeanour, and failed to present himself before the investigating authorities which is despite multiple summons issued to him.
Subsequent investigation also revealed that Amanpuneet Singh Kohli absconded from his known addresses and was untraceable. With the support cooperation and persistent efforts by Inter Agency, Ampuneet could be traced and apprehended.

Meanwhile, Amanpuneet Singh Kohli has been detained under the COFEPOSA Act, 1974 for One Year. He is also under scanner of other agencies.

Further investigation by DGGI – MZU in the matter is currently under progress.
