    FIR against Ravi Mohan Pagare,Former Director of SVC Bank, at Vakola Police station

    In a case which would be prove to be a benchmark in cases of copyright violations, the Mumbai Police has filed an FIR against a former Director of SVC Bank for allegation violation of copyrights for his act of using the bank’s logo for campaigning in social media platforms.

    The Vakola police station in Santacruz has lodged an FIR against Ravi Mohan Pagare, who had been Director of the SVC Bank from 2013-18.

    The complaint has been filed by Nilakshi Shailesh Kambli, Deputy General Manager (Legal and Shares) of SVC Bank.

    It may be mentioned, the Shamrao Vithal Co-op. Bank Ltd. known as SVC Cooperative Bank Limited, is a scheduled bank in India that was established in 1906, being registered as a Co-operative Credit Society on 27 December 1906.

    As per the complaint, senior officials noticed that even though he had ceased to have any association with the bank, he was using its registered logo on Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media for his personal campaign for the bank’s elections.

    “It created an impression that he was officially associated with the bank, ” the complaint said. By using the bank’s logo, he also violated RBI guidelines,” the bank said in the complaint, after which the Mumbai police took cognizance and launched investigations.

    A case has also been registered against the man in Sangli for trespassing in the bank’s premises there, police said.

    A case was registered under relevant sections of the Copyright Act as well as section 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is underway, the police official said
