MUMBAI: Faced with an acute shortage of blood units in Mumbai because of the holiday season, youngsters from the Dawoodi Bohra community in Mumbai organized a Blood Donation Camp at MSB Educational Institute. Over 75 donors, most of whom were between the ages of 25 to 45, came forward to donate blood and help those in need.

“Answering to the appeal by health authorities in Mumbai for religious organizations and societies to step up and donate blood due to the shortage in the city, our HSB volunteers mobilized resources with the help of the Saifee Hospital blood bank,” shared Tasneem Golwala, a volunteer of HSB Alumni group.

“This is one of the many blood donation camps that the community is planning to undertake in Mumbai as part of our Project Rise philanthropic initiative that works in health, hygiene, and nutrition programs,” she added.

Nikhil Jadhav, Senate Member of Mumbai University, also attended the program as a Chief Guest and acknowledged the efforts of the Dawoodi Bohras for undertaking the much-needed blood donation camp and supporting various other social welfare causes in Mumbai and across the globe.

“Every blood donor is a lifesaver”, shared 24-year-old Taher Kathanawala, who has been part of many such blood donation camps in the city. 

“This small act of kindness goes a long way in saving someone’s life and positively impacting the society”.

According to a recent report, Dr Arun Thorat, Assistant Director of the Maharashtra State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) stated that the shortage of blood is faced as people go on Summer vacations. Hence, he appealed to all social, religious, and political organizations to host blood donation camps in the city for the next two months.
