Heavy rains lashes Mumbai and its suburbs since early this morning flooding many parts of the suburbs causing inconvenience to traffic movement.

Reportedly roads in Sion was severely flooded. People in Malad Goregaon Jogeshwari Andheri, Ghatkopar, Chembur had to wade in knee deep water.

As per rail officials, local train services, considered as the lifeline of Mumbai, were running normally on both the Central Railway and Western Railway routes.

However, Buses on some routes, have been diverted due to flooding in several low-lying areas.

The city received an average 95.81 mm rainfall in the 24 hour period ending at 8 am on Tuesday, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 115.09 mm and 116.73 mm rainfall, respectively, during the same period, officials said.

In the wake of heavy rainfall in various parts of the state, CM Eknath Shinde held a discussion with Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava along with directing all the related districts’ guardian secretaries to keep a vigil and control the situation.
