With the Covid-19 Pandemic cases rising day by day, and majority of the cases being reported from highrises, the infection is fast spreading in the slums.

Notably, 11 areas amid congested housing have been declared as containment zones (CZ) following reports of more than five cases.The L Ward, comprising Kurla and Chembur, bears the brunt with maximum number of CZs.

On the first wave, most of the slums were declared Containment Zones after 60 to 70 per cent cases were reported from these areas.

In the second wave too, the administration shut entry points of many areas in a bid to curb the spread. Just as the second wave started receding, the number of Containment Zones in slums reduced drastically. There were hardly five CZs pockets in July.

Notably, in August only five cases were reported from the single pocket in the slums .
Even as there was a small rise in cases when the city reopened in mid-August, the slums didn’t have any CZs.
