Bombay High Court directed the DCP (Zone XI) to retrieve the recording of the CCTV footages (both video and audio) from the cameras installed in Malvani Police Station, from the period 10.30 pm of 30th March
2023 to 10 am of 31st March 2023.

Jameel Merchant accused in an alleged communal incident during the Ram Navami procession in Malad Malwani approached the Bombay High Court, seeking FIR against him be quashed.

In his plea, Jameel requested that the HC constitute a Judicial Commission to probe the incident. He claimed that he was not involved in any kind of provocation and on the contrary, was helping the police to maintain the law and order situation. 21 were arrested In Connection With ‘Ram Navami’ Shobha Yatra Violence in Malad’s Malvani.

The Malad Malwani Police had apprehended several people in connection with a communal incident during a Ram Navami procession in Malwani area of Malad, a northern suburb of Mumbai. Further details are awaited.

Petitioner Jameel Merchant filed RTI Application with Malvani Police for the inside Cctv footage of the police station on 6 April 2023.

When Jameel Merchant approached the Malwani Police seeking for the CCTV footage Police. they blatantly refused to part with the same with a reason for the simple reason that on the very same day, a matter relating to ladies was in progress.

Jameel Merchant had to say that following the Ram Navami incident he was suspected of a role in the incident.

Infact at that time around, he helped the police by silencing the grim atmosphere in Malwani, and later the Malwani Police after suspecting him in the incident filed an FIR.

Jameel Merchant has to say that it was an eyewash by the Malwani Police and police Registred an FIR against him due to political pressure.

Jameel Merchant also suspects that for the safety of Police Cctv recording he filed a petition in the High Court to preserve the safety of the CCTV recording so that there will be no further suspect in him and no false charges will be levelled against him. The Court ordered the Malad Police Station to save the Cctv footage as its the only evidence to the case.

In the High Court Police sought for some time to respond.Accordingly hearing was fixed for 23  August.
