Here’s the Experts of Interview with the Mumbai based Knee Surgeon, Dr. M T Khan :

1: Could you introduce yourself for our readers?

A. Dr. M T Khan is accomplished knee surgeon who specializes in knee joint replacement & knee joint sports injuries treated through key hole arthroscopic surgery. He has been trained from centres of excellence in Mumbai and abroad. He is trained from center for excellence for knee surgery at Sangye Paik Hosp. Seoul, South Korea, Inje University. He is working as honorary professor at a busy BMC hospital where Dr. Khan is incharge of complete knee specialty. Being a professor at BMC hosp. Dr. Khan has privilege upon operating most complex cases of knee and trauma. He has special interest in treating knee deformities – croocked knee. He enjoys sports like cricket; enjoy short vacations with family and friends. He works upon building on patient’s strength and advising treatment that most suited as per patients health condition, physique, activity levels & affordability.

2: When and how did you get in to Medical Field.

A. Dr Khan went to medical school at TNMC and BYL Nair charitable hospital to persue MBBS in 2004 he then did his master in orthopaedic surgery from Sion hospital. His all India rank was 27 at time of joining Sion hospital.

3: What inspires you to choose this field and where does your inspiration come from?

A. Ability to contribute to making a healthy society inspires me to a doctor.

4: What types of Difficulties and Challenges have you faced during your journey?

A. To get in to medical college is extremely difficult in view of competition and number of candidates appearing for the NEET examination. To break in to govt seat required dedicated study and once u get in to medical field its very tiring and difficult job where on an average you work for 18 hours a day.

5: Which elements of your job do you most Enjoy.                                               

A. Being able to mobilise a bed ridden patients and to see smile on face of my patient after they start walking again after accident – that feeling I enjoy most.

6: What is your experience as a Doctor? How many cases / achievements in your portfolios.

A. Experience – 12 years in to this field of orthopedics – around 300 knee replacements in last 5 years , around 500 knee ligaments surgeries in last 5 years alone including govt and private practice , around 1000 cases of bone fracture cases treated surgically in last 5 years alone including govt and private practice.

7: What advice would you give to someone at any point in their (Medical) career?

A. Patients are not guinea pigs- human lives are very precious so treat every patient the way you would actually treat your child or mother.

8: If you were not in this medical field what would do you think you would do professionally instead.

A. Professional alternate career – cricketer

9: How do you Balance your professional life and personal life?

A. I don’t work on Sundays my whole personal life is that one day and occasional short vacations.

A. Healthy pain free mobile life is everyone right

12: As a Dr what you learnt from Covid 19 Pandemic and do you think India has enough Health Infrastructure?

A. Infrastructure is still lacking in most parts of Indian cities like Mumbai and other Metropolitan cities are decently equipped but 2 tier cities are still lacking way behind in health care. Doctor to patient ratio is still less.
