For the Mumbai Crime Reporters, the day, Friday, 3 February is marked as a ‘red-letter’ day. It is on this day that the most renowned Crime Reporter’s Association is holding an election.

Notably, two panel of journalists are contesting this election and the battle is Vishal Singh Senior Journalist currently associated with Free press Journal
Vs  Dnyanesh Chavan currently associated with Press Trust Of India News agency (PTI).

Hello Mumbai News took the opportune moment to talk to both the contestants in a bid to find out their manifesto and agenda.

While speaking with Hello Mumbai News Editor-In-Chief Aleem Sheikh over phone  Dnyanesh Chavan said the vision of their panel is aptly clear to support journalists and to solve their problems. Recently he put up a basic issue such as the renovation of the Press Room and the demand for a separate washroom for female journalist and to add new chairs in the press room.

Interestingly, Mumbai Commissioner of Police, Vivek Phanslkar took personal interest and ordered the concerned department to take up the issue on priority basis at the earliest possible.

He added, his first priority will be towards safety of female journalists and to support them.

That they will try to bring all senior Journalists under the umbrella of the organisation and increase the number of team members.

The Journalists will be provided with Mediclaim Cover, Basic facilities from police like OB Van, parking issue during big fests like Ganapti Visarjan, New Year celebrations etc., and for full police support to journalists amid the course of reporting. And these are the association’s basic agenda.

Apart this, the Association will also add new members in our Association and appeal to police to behave themselves properly and use of ethics.

The association will also put up a demand to the Mumbai police to provide security and support the journalist at the time of hospitalization to benefit the crime reporter.

The association will even press the demand before the Mumbai Commissioner of Police about the enhanced format of press release. The press release content need to be unique and there needs to be should be a miscellany in content. The content of the crime story needs to be authentic  so Dnyanesh Chavan made an appeal to all crime reporters to support him for his victory mark.

Brief introduction of Dnyanesh Chavan  :

Dnyanesh Chavan is a Mumbai based Senior Journalist and belongs to the Maharashtrian Community.
As of now, he is associated with the Press Trust Of India as a Crime Desk Incharge.
He started his career in 1999 as a stringer with “Loksatta Marathi daily publication. In 2007 he joined Sakaal Marathi as a Deputy Bureau Chief and In 2016 joined the Press Trust Of India.

The other contestant Vishal Singh, at present, the President of Crime Reporters Association while in conversation with Hello Mumbai News Aleem Sheikh Editor-In-Chief, explained his vision and manifesto adding that he always stands and fights for journalist. If his record is seen it will be found that whenever our journalist brother gets entangled in legal issue like Police harassment and fake FIR register against them, he will put up such type of issues before the Mumbai Commissioner of Police and it’s for sure they will help us.

In the backdrop of good performance and supportive Nature his other colleagues have gave him a second chance to participate in this year’s election. He rest assures he will fulfill all their hopes.
This time around his first priority will be to provide Mediclaim and insurance facilities. A demand has also been put up for separate new building for crime reporters in the Office premises of the Commissioner of Police. The association will also demand to provide free Toll facilities for journalists who commute daily from Navi Mumbai and Thane. We will also ask other senior journalist those who have shifted and are running their own startup to join us.

We will embark on a membership drive to enroll new members.

It will also be our endeavour to provide free Wifi facilities and free legal Advisor service to our members.

Vishal further added, the association’s priority will be for the safety of Crime Reporters predominantly for the women journalists.

We will fight for justice and will help those who have been victims of police harrasment, political harrasment etc.

Vishal reposes much confidence and faith in his team and the association has a team of well experienced in the panel.

TV 9 Marathi.A s of date, he is associated with Free press Journal.
