Onam is the harvest festival and is majorly celebrated by Malayalis with great pomp and enthusiasm.
On this auspicious occasion Hello Mumbai News took the opportunity to catch up with well known Malayali couple Pradeep Nambiar, eminent lawyer and Journalist and his wife Bindu Nambiar.
While speaking to Aleem Sheikh Editor-in-chief Hello Mumbai News, Pradeep makes it known that Onam is the biggest harvest festival of Kerala and is celebrated with grandeur joy and happiness. There is a significance attached to this festival and in Kerala the Malayalis celebrate it in the most traditional manner. The house is cleaned decked up with flowers.
Bindu Nambiar said to Hello Mumbai News that Woman of the house celebrate it more traditionally. The God is garlanded and then on the east side of their homes light oil lamps. Traditional Onam songs known as Onappattukal are sung.
Rangoli is done up with different varieties of flowers and most female members indulge in a traditional dance form. Later there is a feast with different varieties of curries all served on banana leaf.
