Mumbai: Mumbai Naya Nagar Police, Mira Road, in a first case to be reported in Mira Road Police Station, booked a 33 year old man from Borivli allegedly for instant triple talaq divorce.. Just last year the practise was tagged as a criminal offence.

But, the accused is yet to be arrested. The couple (names withheld) married in 2015 and bear a 3-year-old son. The woman in her complaint claims to be fed up with the constant mental harassment and physical torture by husband and in-laws. She and her son began staying with her brother in Mira Road.

Her ordeal did not end there. Her husband on the reason of meeting their son, used to visit her home and used to indulge in war of words over petty reasons and assaulted her. Restrained over his behaviour, she lodged a complaint at the local police station under various sections of IPC and Domestic Violence Act.

Reportedly, he had met her last month again and put pressure on her to withdraw the complaints. .

In anger for her silence for not withdrawing her complaint, the accused pronounced the word talaq three times in front of her relatives and left in a fit of anguish. Thereafter, the Police registered a case under Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act. Further investigations are under way.
