AAP calls for probe in the Kemps Corner landslide in Mumbai, after local residents complain about indiscriminate digging preceding the landslide; writes to CM and BMC Commissioner about indiscriminate & unprofessional digging across the city

The Aam Aadmi Party today raised tough questions to the BMC as regards indiscriminate, unsupervised, unskilled digging in the city in general and Kemps corner in particular, after a number of local residents reached out to the party, complaining of digging in the immediate vicinity preciding the landslide.

It must be noted that given the migrant labour exodus, there is a shortfall in the workforce, which is being compensated by unskilled labour, without any technical know how or formal training. They are being deployed to somehow continue work. This is in direct contravention of all norms and govt guidelines.

“If this can happen in Kemps Corner, in the heart of Mumbai City, which is in the immediate vicinity of the seat of government, one can obly imagine what is going on elsewhere in Mumbai and it’s suburbs. How many structures and roads have been put at risk, because of this ‘digging’?

We have written to the CM and the Municipal Commissioner demanding accountability and have called for a probe in the Kemps Corner landslide. We have also called for penal action against those flouting norms, while digging for utilities and a comprehensive transparent policy to enable citizens to monitor infrastructure work being undertaken and enaure compliance of norms by the contractor and concerned govt agencies.”, said Senior AAP Leader, Preeti Sharma Menon.
