Mumbai: Yellow alert for two days with forecast of heavy rain issued by IMD
Yellow alert for two days with forecast of heavy rain issued on 14th August by IMD at isolated places of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. Districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are issued with orange alert till Monday. Mumbai and suburbs recorded light showers through the day on Thursday, 13th August. IMD’s Santacruz reecorded 5.6mm rain last night and the Colaba station was recorded 2.2mm rain.

Heavy rain is expected in the central and western India the next 4-5 days, predicts IMD. This include Gujrat, Goa, Konkan and the ghat areas of central Maharashtra. Mumbai and suburbs are expected to receive moderate to heavy rain and gusty wind reaching 45-55kmph, according to the 24 hour forecast.

The Major water supplier of Mumbai, The Bhatsa lake is at 60.75% i.e. 4,35,583 million liters capacity receiving 75mm of rain. Water from this lake is also supplied to the neighbouring cities of Thane and Bhiwandi. Water are also drawn from the Middle Vaitarna, Upper Vaitarna, Tansa and Modak Sagar lakes, situated in Thane and Nashik districts.

Middle Vaitarna received 96mm of rain while Upper Vaitarna received 148mm of rain and Modak Sagar – 95mm of rain. Report recorded at 6 am.
