In an interaction with
Hello Mumbai News reporter Syed Nazia.
Akhtar Qureshi
“One of the major problem of our nation in the forthcoming years would be poverty culminating into joblessness. He articulates that people in his ward area are so poor that they barely have anything to even survive. At such a precarious plight, he tries his level best to ensure that foodgrains reach to every nook and corner in his area and no poor is left behind’.
“Unable to sustain poverty, these poor souls being jobless rush to places where there is a distribution of food. At this scenario, social distancing cannot be curbed. People die unable to sustain hunger than of covid 19 he states” .
Akhtar has complaints against the government over the promises they made which he claims aren’t being met. As per their promise, the government were to provide 5kg rice to the people holding ration card but there are so many people out there who are without ration card. What will a person do with just rice? Why cannot the government provide all essential commodities if a nation wide lockdown is to be followed? He questions.
He has even registered on behalf of the people to the district collector. Its been more than a month now, but he hasn’t received any sort of help as yet.
He cites that people have lost faith in him and he feels embarrassed to not to answer to their problems he said He even suggested that nursing homes should be opened so thatb atleast medicines are available and people facing other issues like heart attack, diabeties , TB Can atleast go in for medicines .
As far as migrant workers are concerned, he feels the government didn’t think appropriately before lockdown. They could have very well made arrangements for them to take them back to their homes.
