Mumbai: Mumbai Suresh Notani Founder Member and Head of Sports and Youth Affairs of The Sindhi Chamber of Commerce Mumbai initiates Marathome- A Run at Home event- Treadmill or Treadwill

Mumbai: On no occasion did we ever envision that the entire universe will be constrained to a grinding halt.

As we, in India, move into the third week of the government imposed lockdown, our standard way of life has transposed.

However, what has not evolved is our will to make the most of any given circumstances.
That said, the World over, people are doing their best to maintain a routine with ‘work from home’ and household chores.

But something that we have neglected is exercising, especially those who were used to outdoors with running, biking and swimming, or indoor workout, it’s just not the same now.

Instead of giving in to excuses like “I can’t leave my house, so how will I go for a walk/run?” Suresh Notani, along with his family used the lockdown to launch a novel concept of Marathome- a Run at Home event, held on Sunday, April 12, 2020.

The event had runners clocking various distances from 2km to 21km within the four walls of their homes.

The event was primarily a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity’s COVID-19 campaign to provide underprivileged families in local villages and districts with Family Essentials Kits.

From conceptualising the idea to execution, the Notani’s managed to get together the support of over 100 people and collected Rs 1 Lakh in five days.

Apart from the fundraiser, the Marathome had 50 runners— ultramarathoners and first-timers.

The oldest participant at 73 years of age ran 21.1 km barefoot within the four walls of his home. Talk about will power.

The concept of “Marathome”, helps you open avenues of running in government-imposed or personally constrained lockdowns.
While at this time of COVID-19, we are restricted to working out within the home, we know now that we can run a full marathon at home too if we want to!

You may not need a Treadmill at home to run a marathon, but you definitely need TreadWill- the willingness to tread in the passages of your home.
