State Government and MHADA are responsible for the Dongri building collapse incident— Sachin Ahir

Mumbai:-  NCP leader and former MHADA chairman Sachin Ahir alleged that State government and MHADA are responsible for the Dongri, “Kesar bai”building collapse incident.

He said that “there are 16000 such dilapidated buildings in the city, which are awaiting redevelopment. This has not the only problem of Kesarbai  building it is the problem of 16000 such old buildings.”

“ I have come to know that Rs.3000 per sq mtr had been fixed for the repair of dilapidated building by the previous government, this amount has not been increased in last five years.” said Ahir.

“Government has not taking authority of such dilapidated buildings in its own hand and life of people has gone in the hands of Landlords and owners ” said Ahir.

Citing this incident as unfortunate Mr.Ahir has demanded inquiry of high level committee to fix responsibility on government officers.

He also suggested to the Government that “ State should consider that residents of city usually don’t go to stay in the transit camps of suburbs. So transit camps should be made available in the city .

While attacking on government Mr.Ahir said “there are policies with the government about dilapidated buildings but apathy towards implementing causes such incidents occurs.”

He also sought quick decision should be taken by the government pertaining to such dilapidated buildings so in future no buildings would collapse.

A four story building has collapsed at densely populated area of Dongri. 15 families are feared trapped in the debris. Fire brigades, NDRF and police forces are taking efforts to rescue people.
