Mumbai Police imposes Section 144 under the Code of Criminal Procedure till 31 December due to rise in Omicron Virus

Amid rising cases of Omicron variant reported from several parts of Maharashtra and to take precautionary measures,
the Mumbai Police has imposed prohibitory orders under the Code of Criminal Procedure’s Section 144 in the Financial Hub from December 16 to December 31 which co
Christmas and New Year eve. large gatherings has been banned to prevent the spread of Omicron virus.

The notification is issued by
Chaintanya S, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Executive Magistrate for Greater Mumbai and will continue to be in force till December 31.

As per the police order the restrictions were necessary keeping in mind of the continued threat posed by the Omicron variant said to be highly infectious and capable of undergoing frequent mutations.

Covid-appropriate behaviour notified by the Maharashtra government need to be followed while in public places. ,

The notification restricts the access to shops and other establishments in the city and all public transport to only fully vaccinated persons and also restricts attendance for any programme to 50℅ of the capacity of the ground or closed premises concerned. It also provides that any event can be organised and attended by fully vaccinated persons only.

Persons entering Maharashtra need to be fully vaccinated or should carry negative RT-PCR test results conducted within 72 hours of their entry.

Violators will be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant penal provisions.
