It comes as a matter of pride that Mumbai’s position in the Swachh Survekshan awards 2021 ranked 37th among 48 cities with a population of more than 10 lakh.
Earlier the City had won a prize for innovation and best practices in the category of solid waste management.
The city scores less in open defecation-free status and zero in garbage-free status
despite having applied for a five-star ranking this year.
Notably, its poor performance in open defecation-free status and zero marks in garbage-free status are the major factors for Mumbai’s position in the Swachh Survekshan awards 2021.
While Navi Mumbai and Thane bagged the fourth and 14th positions respectively, Vasai Virar is in the 29th position.
This was announced by the Central Government’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
