Narcotics Control Bureau have been cracking down on drugs and have been successful on their operation. In a new development the Mumbai Zonal unit, a team of NCB Mumbai seized the contraband from a private courier service in the city M/S DHL Express India (P) Ltd, DHL Express(I) at 1545 Hours on Tuesday 27.10.2020 from one shipment destined to Qatar via Mumbai.
The contraband was an unclaimed seizure and further investigations into the case are underway to nab both the consignee and the consignor.
The contraband seized was concealed in a submersible boring water pump.
As per a Senior NCB Officer, the material inside the casing of the submersible boring water pump was removed and the contraband wrapped in an aluminium foil and rolled with copper wire was kept inside it, to avoid detection.
from M/S DHL Express India (P) ltd, DHL Express(I) at 1545 Hours i.e. on 27.10.2020. The contraband was sourced from Karnataka and was destined to Qatar via Mumbai.
The agency has registered a case under relevant sections of The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, commonly referred to as the NDPS Act.
Notably, Qatar has stringent anti-drug laws for possession, use, and trafficking in illegal drugs. Offenders can face long-term imprisonment and heavy fines. NCB sources stated that utmost care was taken to conceal the drugs in the shipment which was mis-declared.
