P.D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre felicitates more than 40 Organ Donors at its 11thAnnual Organ Donor Felicitation Programme

Mumbai: P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre’s Nephrology department organized its 11th annual Organ Donor Felicitation Programme today to honor the heroic act of family members that saved lives of several patients in need. This programme was organized in an effort to applaud donors and to create awareness about the importance of organ donation. More than 40 donors and their family members were felicitated by Guest of honor, Shri. Anup Jalota, Singer & Musician, Mr. Akiv Ali, Bollywood Film Editor and the hospital management.

 Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gautam Khanna, CEO, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC said, “The last couple of years have seen a significant increase in number of donors and this has happened due to increased awareness. Through this initiative, we want to educate people about organ donation, spread the message of the need and importance of organ donation, both live and cadaver, and honor the noble act of giving life to others.”

  Highlighting the need for organ donation, Dr. Alan Almeida, Head of Department, Nephrology, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC said, “Organ donation offers a new lease of life to patients requiring a transplant. There has been a steady increase in the number of both live and cadaver donations in India over the last few years. We still have a long way to go, but, this is truly encouraging. We at P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC, will continue to strive to increase awareness about organ donation through initiatives like this. It is our persistent endeavor to bridge the ever increasing need for organ donors.”

 P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC has implemented a strong process to educate and counsel patients, donors and the family members about the kidney transplant procedure, along with the care to be taken at each stage by both the patient and the donor post the transplant..
