Hello Mumbai City Desk

Parisar Asha Conducted an Eco-friendly Ganpati Workshop for 50 hearing impaired children at Utkarshh Mandal Vile Parle’s Usha Jamneshkar School for Deaf and Dumb with the support of Suryodaya Foundation spearhead by Dr. Anuradha Pauwal

31st August’23 was a momentous day, when 50 hearing impaired children learnt the craft of creating Eco-friendly Ganpatis. This initiative was organised by Parisar Asha with the support of Suryodaya Foundation.
Parisar Asha is a not-for-profit organisation working relentlessly towards the mission of providing quality education to the underprivileged for the past 41 years. Over the years we have worked with 3500+ schools comprising of private and aided and unaided schools. We have also worked with thousands of teachers and millions of students during our stint in the education system for over four decades.

Suryodaya Foundation is a Mumbai based social welfare initiative founded by Padmashri Awardee and veteran singer Dr. Anuradha Paudwal. Since the early 80’s the organisation is involved in various philanthropic activities.
Parisar Asha had started with Eco-Ganpati making initiative 10 years back with the mission to stop the environmental contamination which is created after the immersion of Ganpati idols made of POP and toxic colours. The efforts were directed towards propagating the worship of eco-friendly idols and teach the devotees the craft of creating Ganpati idols using ‘shadu’ clay, an eco-friendly material. This workshop is conducted for both children and adults. Over a period of 10 years, we have trained more than 25,000 individuals in this creative form and helped them to be the green ambassadors and spread the message in the community at large.

We have kick-started a similar initiative this year as well at various schools and corporates. Dr. Anuradha Paudwal, founder of Suryodaya Foundation was extremely moved with this initiative and wanted the initiative to be rolled out for children with hearing impairment. She said, “Ganpati festival is an extremely inclusive festival, which is celebrated across India. Suryodaya Foundation has made a mark in helping children with disabilities. This is a great initiative for children with disability to get trained in a new art form and become the green change leaders.”
Hence, on 31st Aug’23, Parisar Asha in collaboration with Suryodaya Foundation conducted an Eco- Ganpati Making Workshop for 50 children with hearing impairment at Utkarshh Mandal Vile Parle’s Usha Jamneshkar School for Deaf and Dumb.

It was a joyous occasion to see these children get involved in this innovative process and create their own bappas. The highlight of the day were the abundant smiles on these faces and 50 beautiful bappa idols created by these geniuses; creating a statement to stop the production of POP idols.

On this occasion, Ms. Aarati Savur, CEO of Parisar Asha expressed her joy and stated that, “It was a brilliant day. We have been relentlessly working towards education and for the environment for the past four decades and today we added another glorious chapter in this initiative.”
