R.D. and S.H. National College, established with the blessings and leadership of Rishi Dayaram Gidumal and Dr. Annie Besant in 1949, is one of the oldest colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai and the first of the 24 educational institutions established by the Hyderabad Sind National Collegiate Board. A proud Sindhi Minority institute which is truly ‘national’ in spirit, it has grown from strength to strength in the past 7 decades.  We are the mother institution and so envelope within ourselves the cultural richness and the history of the Hyderabad and Sindh Board. In our legacy of 70 years, we have had leaders and prominent personalities from all walks of life from the late president of India. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to the music maestro, A.R. Rahman, visiting and motivating our students from time to time. Furthermore, challenges are only opportunities to strengthen the mind, the race and the world at large, and our institute has been successful in transforming the ongoing pandemic challenge into an opportunity to empower the youth with the essential tools for overcoming such situations and providing assistance to civic and administrative bodies during such global crises through social outreach initiatives such as promotion of khadi masks, helpline for mental illnesses, launch of the innovation and entrepreneurship cell, virtual lab, skill-based online workshops and webinars, motivational talks on radio channels, to name a few.
In lieu of the SOP issued by Mumbai University and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the college is striving towards COVID vigilance on campus. As a part of this, a Covid 19 Vaccination Drive was organised for the staff and students of National College on 30th October 2021- an initiative by the Government of Maharashtra, Joint Director, Hiher Education and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The Vaccination Drive was inaugurated and successfully launched on 30th October 2021 at 10 am by the hands of the chief guest Shri. Advocate Ashish Shelar, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Ex-Minister, govt. of Maharashtra, School Education, Sports and youth Welfare and Smt. Swapna Virendra Mhtare, Municipal Corporator, Mumbai Municipal Corporation in the presence of the Dr. Neha Jagtiani (Principal), Vice Principals Prof. Lakshmi Iyer, Dr. Kiron Jathar, Prof. Dinesh Himmatsinghani and Prof. Vipul Saluja, the staff and students of NationalCollege.
At National college we strongly believe in the famous words of Erasmus who says that, and I quote “The main hope of the Nation lies in the proper education of its Youth” unquote. And it is in an attempt to live up to these words, during the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Neha Jagtiani, employed the platform to herald the launch of the state-of-the-art Sound and Editing Room for the budding directors and filmmakers of our college.
