News comes to the fore that 1994 Batch IPS Officer Deven Bharti and Additional Director General Of Police Senior was on Wednesday January 4, 2023 appointed to a newly created post as `Special Commissioner’ of Mumbai Police.
As of now IPS officer Vivek Phansalkar is the Mumbai Police Commissioner.
Notably, Bharti was close to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while he was the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) when Fadnavis was the Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019.
Thereafter, on promotion as Additional Director General Of Police, he was moved to the Anti-Terrorism Squad.
Reportedly, in 2019, Bharti was ousted when the Maha Vikas Aghadi government came to power. He was then the Joint Managing Director, Maharashtra State Security Corporation

It was on On December 13, 2022, that Bharti got replaced by Joint Commissioner (traffic) Rajvardhan. Ever since then he had been awaiting new posting along with former ATS chief Vinit Agarwal, former Thane Police Commissioner Bipin Kumar Singh and former Anti-Corruption Bureau chief Prabhat Kumar.
