Shivaji Park runners group staged a protest early this morning outside the Worli Police Station after one of their member Rajalakshmi Ram Krishnan,CEO of a Tech Firm on Sunday in a car accident near Worli Seaface while she was on a morning walk.

A Tech Firm CEO 57 year old Rajalakshmi Ram Krishnan, a Matunga resident, was mowed down by a speeding four wheeler at Worli Sea Face on Sunday morning while she was on a morning walk. The 23 year injured driver of a Tata Nexon EV car identified as Sumer Dharmesh Merchant, was arrested from the spot after the accident under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC and Section 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

As per Merchant in his statement to the Police, he and his friend were driving a female colleague to her Shivaji Park home after a party at his residence when the incident took place. Being a blind spot, he was unable to see the woman jogger. However, Police suspect he was either drunk or may have dozed off and lost control of his car. His blood samples has been sent for testing according to DCP (zone III) Akbar Pathan and the test report is expected on Monday evening.

Sumer Merchant employed with an event management company that provides talent for Bollywood films, will be produced before the Bhoiwada court on Monday. He has suffered minor injuries to the face when the windshield of the car shattered due to the crash.Traffic police have decided to urge the RTO to suspend Merchant’s driving licence.They have issued three challans against the Tata Nexon, which is registered in his mother’s name

As per police reports, the accident occured near Worli Milk Dairy at around 6.30 am
The woman was rushed to the nearby Worli Podar hospital where she was declared dead. She was a regular runner.

However, eye witnesses reveal that impact of the collision was such heavy and with car in high speed, the woman was literally flung several feet into the air and died from head injuries.

Meanwhile as per Worli Police further investigation into the matter is underway.

Rajalakshmi was the CEO of Altruist Technologies private Ltd., She had recently taken part in the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2023 and was part of a jogger’s group from Shivaji Park.
