A Video tweet by Social Activist-Cum Journalist Dr Binu Varghese from Thane of illegal diesel mafia operating an illegal fuel station in Uran and selling diesel to motorists for cheaper price helped Senior police inspector Ravindra Budhwant and his team to trace the location near Jai Bhawani Dhaba in Jasai village and busted the illegal activity of fuel being sold at cheaper rates to motorists.
The video which has gone viral showed the miscreants using a machine for noting the meter reading of the amount of diesel being filled in a Hyundai Creta SUV, in which a name board (In Marathi) of Maharashtra Government, Home Department’ has been placed.
As the tweet was tagged to State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, DGP and Navi Mumbai police, the Uran police team immediately swung into action and arrested two key accused persons Jalprsj
Kalpesh Mane (25), a resident of Karanjade village in Panvel and his aide Qadir Ahmed (23), a resident of Pargaon village in Panvel, who operated the illegal fuel station seized the machine and tanker loaded with bio-diesel.
As the viral message on social media claims that a person named Anthony is the kingpin of the illegal activity, the Police has made him also an accused so that in case his name is established in the racket, he will also be arrested in the FIR registered under Section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. We have seized one tanker with 1500 litres of biodiesel, a motor machine used for pumping fuel, a dispenser machine and one generator collectively worth Rs 16.81 lakhs.”
Uran Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Budhwan said, “The duo accused men in connivance with the diesel tanker drivers pilfered the diesel and collected the fuel in huge cans. Thereafter, they sold the diesel at cheaper price to the motorists passing by the highway. On inquiry with the accused about the Hyundai Creta SUV seen in the video, he confessed and claimed that the car owner was a suspended government official to whom they had sold the diesel for a cheaper price. However, the SUV owner will be summoned for inquiry.
