On 15 January, the Indian Army commemorated its 71st Army Day with traditional solemnity and gaiety all across the country. In Mumbai, Lieutenant General SK Prashar, Vishist Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding Maharashtra Gujarat and Goa Area and all ranks laid wreath at Shaheed Smarak at Colaba Military Station to pay homage to our Valiant Martyrs.

Army Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the day when Lieutenant General (Later Field Marshal) K M Cariappa, took over the reins of the Indian Army from Lieutenant General Sir Francis Butcher as first Indian Commander-in-Chief of Independent India on 15 January 1949. The day is also celebrated to honour our country’s soldiers and martyrs who have set the greatest example of selfless service and brotherhood in the line of duty.
