Mumbai, February 26, 2020: Praised for its cleanliness, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) managed by GVK’s Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has been named as the third cleanest airport in India under private airports category at the prestigious Swachhata Awards 2019. The award lauds MIAL’s continuous efforts in maintaining, enhancing and promoting cleanliness and sanitation in and around the airport. The Swachhata Award 2019 was conducted in association with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
CSMIA is known for taking proactive measures to make Mumbai International Airport, one of the cleanest airports in the country. With an aim to promote and maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the airport, CSMIA has intensified its cleanliness activities. The airport has a thorough routine for the cleaning staff that leads to a cleaner and a hygienic surrounding for the passengers. In one of the major initiatives undertaken by the airport; CSMIA introduced waterless urinals. Bacterial culture and microorganisms are used to clean the toilets which saves close to one lakh litres of water per day.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation’s survey Swachhata Award 2019 was conducted across all airports in India. This award adds to CSMIA’s feat, as it recently participated in the clean India diktat set up by the government. For the initiative, CSMIA organized a 15-day drive, as part of the Swachh Bharat Pakhwada for passengers and all stakeholders of CSMIA, to spread awareness about the programme. During the 15-day drive, CSMIA captured the holistic view of the movement which included various interactive wellness programs on health and nutrition as well as fun competitions keeping ‘Swachhata’ as the theme to evoke a sense of responsibility and awareness towards a clean and green environment.
