E-Ward BMC Officer attacked by RTI Activist in his cabin, Agripada Police Refuses to lodge FIR

By Aleem Shaikh Mumbai

Wednesday was a black day for the BMC officer of  “E” Ward Byculla. On this day whatever happened in the “E”Ward building premises, is very shameful and unbelievable. Assistant Engineer Mr.Malekar Satish Govind (Building and Factory Dept.) was attacked and assaulted by RTI Activist Shamshad Ahmed. Shamshad managed to escape from the spot.

Surprisingly even after 24 hours of the incident, the Agripada police only visited the spot and inspected it. But did not Lodge the FIR against the accused. Police have told Malekar to show proof that he is a BMC officer.
“As usual I was seating in my cabin the accused Shamshad entered my office and started shouting at me. Although whatever he asked in the RTI application I  provided all details to him but his sole intention was to arrange a meeting with Developer of “Aafeeya Tower” for which he was pressurizing me.It means that he wanted something from the developer. He argued with me, threatened and assaulted me and ran away”, said Malekar.

The second episode of this incident is very shameful when Mr. Malekar went to the Agripada police station to lodge the complaint against the accused, instead of taking his complaint the police asked him that why he is not giving RTI reply. Although that is not their lookout nor it is their duty to ask about RTI reply.

They inspected  Malekar’s cabin and took the statement of the eyewitness Deepak Bansode and asked  Malekar to submit all proof and certified copy that he is a BMC officer and works in the E-Ward as an Assistant Engineer.

When Hello Mumbai contacted the officer from Agripada police station, Mr. Sandeep Nalgi he admitted that they have asked proof of Malekar.  He assured us that very soon they will lodge FIR against the accused. He further said that this was not his personal but his superior’s decision .

Hello Mumbai has  copy of the letter in which police asked all the details to Malekar
This incident raises many questions against  Mumbai police ‘s integrity and fearless image.

After this incident, the morale of BMC officer’s are very low. Higher authorities should look into this matter seriously so that such type of incidents are not repeated again in the future.
