BJP Municipal Corporator Swapna Virendra Mhatre recognised for her aggressive and dynamic working style is now upset with BMC and its working style during covid and lock down crisis.
Sharing her work experience with ‘Hello Mumbai News ‘ Editor Aleem Sheikh , she said, she demands more funds from BMC and to meet more medical facilities to combat the Covid 19 pandemic.
Speaking over phone she said , ‘ From day one since declaration of lockdown, we and our party workers started to work hard and took to the streets. We distributed more than 2500 food packets in the slum area and carried out sanitisation in 959 societies and all gaothon area.
We distributed more than 2500 masks and distributed food grains and more than 2400 ,PPE kits and masks. We also carried out the distribution in Bhabha Hospital and also distributed masks in Bandra , Khar and Santacruz Police Station.
Am working on field since the last 45 days during which time I noticed some laxity in work by BMC. (1) As of now, BMC and our local ward do not have adequate sanitisation. Infact, we are spending from our pocket. (2) there is no Ambulance facility for covid patient. When we dial 108 emergency callin emergency we have to wait for atleast 8 hours. During that period the situation turns panic. People are demanding sanitisation and fogging which BMC are unable to provide. In slum areas, people feel depressed to use common public toilet without sanitisation . BMC does sanitisation only in those areas where covid patients are detected.
She further reiterated, it’s my appeal and request to BMC tom sanction us extra funds for Covid-19 or allow us to use our funds for Covid-19 patients.
Moreover, BMC is not providing basic safety facilities either to us or our party workers. We are working since last 45 days sans safety measures, family safety and safety of my people. There are no Covid-19 testing centres and no doctors to carry out tests. How we will come to know the real number of Covid-19 patients without a test? testing .
BMC need to set up testing centres in each local ward.
Quarantine centre is very important in local area because we dont have ambulance facilities.
Whatever we have done during this lockdown period, the credit goes out to our MP Poonam Mahajan and our MLA Adv.Ashish Shelar who both supported and help us to a great extent during this crisis.
last but not the least, I would just say, BMC needs to improve in providing more facilities and more funds. They should part with the funds with corporators but they are only giving to Hospitals.
