This year right after the spread of pandemic COVID-19 monsoons has come. The number of cases infected with the disease is the highest in Maharashtra, which means Maharashtra is still at number 1 position with most number of cases in India.

Hello Mumbai News Team Interacted with BMC Corporator of ward 216 Mumbai Central and Councilor of D-Ward Mr. Rajendra Narwankar over a phone call. He shared his experience by quoting, “We have 3 big drains which are completely underground. Small drains are perfectly designed for water to pass out. We have good pumping station and a well-designed and organized drainage system. So there is no chance of waterlogging at all unless there is extremely heavy rainfall. Under extreme heavy rains water will be drained off within 30 minutes and there will be no waterlogging issue after 30 minutes.” This is how he shared information regarding monsoon preparations of his ward.

When our reporter enquired him about his experience of lockdown he shared, “Am helping MCGM for managing the control room of D-Ward. We started our work before the lockdown and will continue till everything is under control. Only intention is to render myself voluntarily service so my earlier experiences as disaster control room head with MCGM’s engineer.”

He further quoted, “Am working since day one, and my party is quite supportive. Last month we donated 5 kg of rice and wheat to the ones who are stuck here and are unable to go back. In the morning we make cooked food packs of Puri & Bhaji in the morning and khichdi in the evening for the ones who are outsiders i.e. not belong to Mumbai but are stuck here, and to ones who have turned out jobless and are starving due to lockdown. Earlier the number was 1000 now the number is just 100.

I have a Red Light Area under my ward. Due to lockdown they have no opportunity for work. So we served those women a kit consisting foodgrains. We have provided food to people who have lost their jobs like compounders, craftsmen, etc.

We have made all the arrangements of medical facilities. We have admitted people at hospitals, we have made quarantine centers, we got tested the families of ones who are infected. We have made quarantine wards for the ones who have high risk of being affected.”

They have also served 500 cups of tea to the police officials BMC officials and other citizens on field. This is how he works for welfare of his people.

When he was quizzed about government performance, he said that he is not 100% satisfied. He quoted, “Am not 100% satisfied with governments performance. There is a lot of miscommunication. BMC staff didn’t expect this sudden burden of work. It is difficult for them to manage.

Talented people were ready to work willingly but have not got a chance. The retired officials from medical field and engineering field would have willingly turned up with their expertise to handle the situation. I made an appeal to higher authorities to allow and allot those experienced people to serve, but they rejected my appeal. Instead appointed all youngsters who neglect their duties and just sit and waste time. The experienced officials would have turned up and were also happy to serve and would have
