Roop Nahil, a well-known TV presenter, writer and successful business woman wishes a prosperous and healthy new year to everyone…. :

After newly moving to London in 1994, young and aspiring Roop started her journey of success and recognition very early on in 1995 when she was crowned UK Bhangra Queen by Sunrise Radio.

Starting her media career and Punjab radio, Roop significantly established her name and continued to do so for the next 20 years. Currently Roop’s weekly show, Punjabi Virsa, is a popular show on Akaal Channel where she interviews famous Punjabi personalities. Her discussions and topics cover all aspects of Punjabi heritage, culture and history. Throughout her media career, her ethos has been to promote Punjabi language and culture. She believes to be successful in life, you need to remain grounded and to stay connected with your roots.

In the early 90s, Roop found that it was commonly believed that people, especially women, who came from India would only work in factories or shops despite what education they had. Roop wanted to break this cultural stereotype and instead promote female empowerment and consequently worked very hard.

Today she is a successful business owner and runs a residential care home for the elderly. She is well respected and is a role model for Punjabi women in the country.

Despite her busy lifestyle, she still finds time to raise money for charities by participating for walks, marathons and hosting charity events.

During her talk with Hello Mumbai, she stated that is has been a particularly challenging year for the care sector and she hopes that with the rolling out of the new vaccine we can expect some normality in 2021.

While wishing a very happy new year to everyone, Roop shares with concern about the Indian farmers who are at the Delhi borders peacefully protesting against the new farmer bills. Roop urges the Indian government to listen to the voice of the public so that these farmers can return to their homes. We can then truly celebrate the new year.
