Axis Bank Starts Special Money Service For Cops Maintaining Order in Queues

Axis Bank on Thursday provided the Mumbai Police with a special service to get the new Rs. 2000 note. The officials at the compound were swiping the debit cards of the police personnel and were providing them with the note. The file maintaining the record of the number and names of police personnel swiping the card showed the total number of swipes to be 110 by 4:15 pm. An official standing in the queue said that the service started at around 2:30pm. It was the first day, and one of the police personnel standing in the queue on the condition of anonymity said that he welcomed the step taken as a cop cannot leave his duty and go to a bank. “Officials of all the ranks are standing in the queue, we need it for our families. It is a welcome move. Most of us have our accounts in Axis Bank,” he said. Another woman official standing in the queue said that the cash is needed for daily expenditure. “We need it for buying products for home, to take our children to school and other work. Being in the force we cannot leave our duty and stand in the queue at banks, therefore it’s a good step as we can quickly swipe our card and take the cash after waiting for sometime in the line. Although getting change for the note is an issue but it’s better to have something in hand than nothing,” she added.  DCP Ashok Dudhe, Mumbai Police spokesperson, said, “Today is the first day of the service. It is a welcome move. It is not possible for a cop to leave his duty and stand in a queue at a bank during duty hours, he or she has to maintain law and order in the city. Therefore police personnel appointed at the compound or in the region can come here and get their card swiped to take the cash and then quickly go back from the break.” As the nation tries to cope with the issue as a percentage of the population says that the step taken is for greater benefit, the ground reality shows that many are inconvenienced during the process.

In the midst of the crisis situation, a service like this clearly facilitates the people who are responsible for maintaining law and order in the city, as they too have similar issues like the common man standing outside a bank in a queue.
