Mumbai: Even as the online gambling game Poker is popular, so too rummy has currently become widely known.

The Youth of the present generation have turned addicts to this online gambling gaming.

Rummy is among the oldest and arguably most popular card game. When card games went digital, a new version of it known as ‘Online Rummy’ came into existence and its popularity among players dwarfed all existing traditional Indian games.

Ironically, the youth are unaware of the consequences of this rather illegal game, and that they are staking their precious life by playing this online game.

Hence, activists are plan to file a PIL in Bombay High Court in the month of June to ban this website.

According to an expert, the current size of this new industry is around $150 million and it’s growing by leaps and bounds every year.

To be precise, online games has not only become big business in India, but gambling has become more popular and a lucrative businesses.

Infact, online games are luring 75% of youth mainly male. In the prevalent COVID 19 lockdown, and with no activities, major youths are dabbling into this online gambling business. It’s not only rummy, but the youths are also addicted to various online games such as lottery, racing, batting, casino. Several Indian games like teen patti, ultimate teen patti have ranked top10 positions in the world.

Several online gaming sites are organizing an annual game tournaments .
The legal age set for this online gaming site is 18 years, but there are no checks whether the player is 18 years or minor. Many are using fake ID for registration, but government is not keeping any track on it. Apart, government don’t have any control on this online gaming .

Ankur Dewani who is running Pokers India online gaming site, has a case against him under section 363, 364(a), 511of the IPC.

He has assaulted a taxi driver and police constable in juhu area and is involved in another kidnapping case.

Meanwhile, the terms and conditions about the users for the online gaming websites from a particular territory are not allowed to get access or play.

Even then, the websites don’t prohibit any users. Now the activist and lawyer Balakrishna plans to file a PIL in Bombay High Court to ban all the websites of the online games.

According to Balakrishna, there are several websites like Ladbrokes on which you can bet on cricket, football with impunity. Many Indian bookies are betting on these sites on behalf of thousands of benami clients and making huge profits. There is no police check on this.

The online gambling game poker, rummy etc are played by Chinese and unimaginable amounts are betted on them. Regrettably ,there is no law enforcement in the area.

Balakrishna plans to file a PIL in Bombay High Court in the month of June after the lockdown 3 is lifted.

Indian players liked this sync of offline and online rummy and are turning out in thousands to play rummy via their PC and mobile app.
