WHAT’S YOUR MESSAGE ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY FOR WOMEN.
Well, women, you are the most powerful of all existing on the planet earth. Not just here. But I’m sure if there are women in other galaxies also they will be as powerful.
We don’t just give birth to new lives, but we also, if decide to give birth to any kind of venture, enterprise or any kind of initiatives, we always put our heart and soul. So for us it is the home front, work front, personal care front. So the biggest thing is have confidence in whatever you do.
Trust you can do anything and everything. And whenever you get an opportunity, take the time to learn, to groom, to grow, to be able to be independent, confident, leave behind any fear at any point of time in your life. If you feel you are losing it, look out for a buddy, look out for a friend.
Look out for yet another woman in your life who will understand you totally from the core and who will be able to actually give you the support which you will need in those times of difficulty.
Once you overcome those challenges, biggest of challenges, personal, professional, emotional, physical, whatever they may be, woman, you can do it and you can do it alone. Look for a backup, support, emotional, moral, nothing else is required in life.
Yes, money comes and goes. Money is very, volatile. Don’t trust.
If you have the money, then the world is yours. Don’t again trust that if you don’t have the money, you will not tide along. That is not possible. You will achieve.
Have your own safety, have your own security, have your own hidden savings like we all women do. Keep them. Keep them for your hard times.
Because many a times in life you will realise there is nobody standing by you, next to you, behind you. At those times maybe you can fall back and create your safety in the small savings, in the securities you would have created for yourself. And that will definitely last you and tide you along in life.
All the very best and wish you a very, very Happy International Women’s Day. 2023. This year it’s special because every year, every day is a new day for a woman and every day has to be special.
So like every year, this year is also special because 2023 was never there before and will never be there in future. Have a great month and enjoy.
SHARE YOUR RECOGNITION AND ACHIEVEMENTS.
Helping people handholding people in all walks of life, whether it is with the International Human Rights Council or giving a talk at the United Nations talking about genomic wellness at less than a dollar a day to safeguard women’s health globally or talking about digital technology and innovation in being able to empower and transform women and girls lives and make them economically independent. Well, whatever it is, all these I call as recognitions. And yes, these are big time great opportunities that came my way, which I’m sure including havig a visit to the UN, to represent an NGO as a Permanent Representative and being representative at the UN for two NGOs is really a big pride. And I will say as a crown on my head and a crown on myself, which keeps me going, saying that I have a lot more to do in life.
So achievement wise yes today, with three decades in private healthcare space I am becoming a recognized figure, as genomic wellness consultant in India. I am also recognized as the most passionate person in life who can be sought help even in the middle of the night. Whatever be the kind of emergency, whether it is connecting to the commissioner of police or whether it is just supporting morally somebody who’s low, somebody who’s let down, somebody who’s in depression, someone who needs simply help.
My biggest achievement have been able to reverse somebody’s depression medicine, 18 big medicines. And this looks like an impossible task, but yes, this has been possible. And it is really with your support, your consultation and your handholding that these miracles do happen in people’s lives.
I have over 4-5 dozen awards and recognitions of which mostly I have lost track. In last 2 years itself I have received over 2 dozen awards for various aspects personally and for achievements.
I can mention three important ones which happened in this very month of International Woman’s Day is the First Social Entrepreneur Award of my life, the First award for my book being the first on the subject to be authored by an Indian and that too a woman & third is simply being acknowledged by the Iran Culture House and agreeing to help by sending my book to Iran to be translated into Persian Language.
WHAT WAS YOUR KEY DRIVING FORCE TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?
The key driving force as an entrepreneur? Well, like I said earlier, it is about being strong, believing in yourself, and once you believe in the enterprise that you do, it creates that passion which says, yes, it is possible at every walks of life. My mentor has been one of the best OKR coaches in India, Suresh Mansharamani & Uma Mansharamani have been a very big driving force and an epitome of strength in my life over the past few years where my entrepreneurial journey initiated. And whenever I am down or low, I look up to them and they have just stood there, not really maybe doing anything physically for me, but, yes, emotionally, morally, mentally; they have really pushed me and held me on and not allowed me to fall or failure in life till date. And that is the starting of my entrepreneur journey, where it makes you believe that, yes, everything is possible because you and you only can do it.
And there are certain things, especially you are enterprise, it is only you who can do it and nobody else can do what you can do. So, self motivation, self drive, I don’t know where it comes from, but, yes, these have been very big benchmarks in keeping me strong as an entrepreneur and in allowing me to grow and grow in business, which I definitely look at reaching globally to over a million people in the next five years.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR COMPANY?
Well, how did I come up with the name of my company, Medix Metier Healthcare? That is the name given to my enterprise by my daughter, Khushee. Khushee is happiness, joy. And that was the name I gave her.
And I think the name Medix Metier Healthcare is something which is very unique. Well, it is Medix because it is related to the medical field. Whether you call it paramedical, alternate, complementary, whatever you call it, it is related to medical field.
Metier means something which is definitely a very high level of care or cure that you can describe it as. And yes, I am into the private healthcare space, so my enterprise had to have a name relating to healthcare. Very beautiful name. An very outstanding or advantageous activity /therapy /profession.
There are a lot of literal translations of Medix, especially the word metier, but it is like the next level of well being, what I will describe it as. So, this is a gift to me by my daughter. And I really cherish and will trademark the name very soon.
HOW DID YOU RAISE FUNDING FOR YOUR VENTURE?
Oh. Till date, I have still not decided to go from SME to IPO. It will still take me another at least two to three years.
So raising funding, I haven’t really begun, but whatever funding is required for the existence of an enterprise, it is all from my own income. One thing I can say that because I went a very organic way to growth, I really didn’t have to pump in any monies.
Whatever I was able to do with my maximum income. That came in very conservatively. I used it almost fully.N ot for myself, but for putting it back into the enterprise and trying to do the necessities like branding and my website and social media activities and things like visiting cards and brochures and my petty cash expenses. All that was possible with the own monies that came out of the clients that I have been helping and the conversions I have been making so it’s just directly proportionate that till date my funding has very been self owned and nothing from broken fixed deposit or broken cash savings kitty that I was never required to do. But yes.I n future, I will look at expanding with having some more partners in my enterprise. And then maybe we will look at the next level where I might be setting up a wellness center of my own along with Lot. Of other additional therapies and facilities and that is when partnerships and associations will bring in some amount of funding to begin with.
Maybe this will sustain me for the next one year. And then is the growth phase where I can look upon my mentor again to grow from the SME to IPO stage regularizing, putting things in place in the organization, people in place, processes in place. And then that will be the growth phase to a goal of one crore a month. Once I am ready, it will come.
HOW DO YOU BUILD A SUCCESSFUL CUSTOMER BASE?
So how do I create a successful customer base? Well, my passion into this profession of changing people’s health lives and impacting them with their health challenges and helping assisting them reach their health goals; this is the key to my customer base because once a customer I have been able to maintain that standard of forever a customer. Today if I recommend to people, okay, you need this and you need to do this and you need to do that and you need to take such and such they just go by the trust they have in me because it is a very big compliment I always receive. Dr Usha madam will never guide me or push me into something which is not good for me.
She will only give me what is best for me. That is the kind of trust and customer base I think I can just mention that my contacts on my phone which is including about five Gmails that I have, is more than 75,000. So I think building relations, keeping contact, connecting with people is just a way of life.
I don’t really need to go out in the world to meet the people whom I don’t know because they anyways come to me through some reference, some contact, some connection I make somewhere in life on my way. Whether it is my home, it is my hometown, whether it is I travel anywhere I’m in the train, I am at destination for a holiday wherever it is, I connect with people and they all form my very beautiful database.
HOW DO YOU MARKET YOUR BUSINESS, AND WHICH TACTICS HAVE BEEN MOST SUCCESSFUL?
Marketing my venture or marketing my business. Yes, there are challenges because mine is a very, very niche business services and that is why less understood and a new disruptive science. So people take their own time to research.
People are very well read these days. They love to do their research, they love to do their homework and then try everything under the sun and then come back saying, okay, now I need your help. So marketing, it’s about creating awareness for me.
So the best way I am able to get customers is really through one to one counseling consultation with them and it is also by trying to give presentations, awareness session, wellness preview at various social and corporate organizations. Maybe it is for women’s health, maybe it is for wellness at workplace. It is just about various aspects of letting people know how they can stay healthy on a daily basis and how simple it is to adapt certain disciplines in life.
Know yourself internally through your DNA, through your genes, and then it is very easy to live a very healthy and disease free life. Yes, of course it is about food, it is about your nutrition. So once you make people aware, it is about your fitness, exercise, your sleep, your day schedules, your stress, your meditation.
It is all about all aspects of life that keeps you healthy, well and finally happy. So creating awareness is my biggest tool to let people know that it is possible to stay healthy and disease free. And that is how I promote my business.
The 180 Degrees Transformation where of course everyone believes even today that they need some kind of therapy, some kind of ‘ILAJ’ which will help them get better and well immediately. So ILAJ KIYA aur immediate theek ho jao, is still people’s big way mindset rather than long term wellbeing. But doing some efforts and that also comes into their lives and I’ve been very successful in that.
HOW MANY HOURS A DAY DO YOU WORK ON AVERAGE?
How many hours I work in a day? I will say 6 hours a day. Because being an entrepreneur, that is the biggest advantage it gave me. I don’t need to really spend two to 4 hours traveling and nine to 10 hours at work.
And it gave me freedom to learn more, to develop my skills further, which is required by an entrepreneur or by my enterprise. And it gave me the me time, the self time to revive, rejuvenate myself, put in my daily routines in life. So that staying healthy, being healthy and preaching, it’s not just about preaching what I do, but it’s also about practicing what I preach, because of which I believe I will be much more successful than anything else.
So 6 hours a day, usually six days a week, and it is from maybe twelve noon to 06:00 p.m.. that I work daily.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE/OUTLINE YOUR TYPICAL DAY?
For my typical day. I can’t say it is very unique, very disciplined. But I take my own time to sleep.Depending on what time I went off to sleep the previous night, I need a minimum of seven to 8 hours of sleep to recoup, to rejuvenate. So my day may begin at 7.30 or it may begin at 9.30. And it begins with as soon as I open my eyes I am grateful for being able to get up again another new day.And I also, do some chanting of some Hindu mantras as soon as I open my eyes. Then get off my bed, do my morning routine it will be chanting my initiation mantra of the Craniosacral therapy I domy Sudarshan Kriya and some meditation or also adding it with listening to Venkatesh Suprabhatam and Vishnu Sahastranam every morning. Then I go ahead, make my breakfast, get fresh maybe if I have to go out, have a bath early morning or just simply relax with myself, think, plan what next? How will my day be after twelve noon? If there are not already prefixed appointments and schedules then I might just decide to look up my emails.
Look up WhatsApp? Messages. Lots and lo. Hundreds of them, on a daily basis.
Reply to them, put up some status, put up some posts then connect with my other business network, business owners, get to know them, tell them about me and that routine. One meeting after the other. Generally staying at home.
Except maybe once or twice a week I need to go out and by then it is early dinner time in the evening. So I make myself something. And yes, post. That is definitely again my daily time for learning and growth. So I have lots of webinars I register with.
It’s post 07:00 every day. I have lots of webinars which go on sometimes even till 10:00 p.m. On few days.
It may also be happening on Sundays. But those are my learning curves. Whether it is acupuncture, whether it is business related mentoring, training whether it is taking trainings and speaker sessions with people or whether it is anchoring comparing for some common sessions where I am invited to conduct the session. So 7 to 9.30 or 10 is daily for learning.
Sundays I will say is most of the time my full day to just relax, just sleep and maybe do nothing more in between evenings. Sometimes I might just go out, go to my father, go to my aunt, meet them if any friends coming over then that is between four to seven and that’s how a typical day will look like.
Waiting every single day is a new day and a challenging day. But yes, this is my tentative schedule and then I have a good refreshing chamomile tea in the night before I sleep off to bed. May beI will be back on my WhatsApp or my emails.
If I have to do some kind of a reading or prepare a post or think about something then I do that before bedtime. Say my I do my meditation, lot of meditation especially before going to sleep in the night and that’s how I even put up some meditation music and conc off to my sleep every night. So that’s a very typical day.
HOW HAS BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR AFFECTED YOUR FAMILY LIFE?
I don’t think it has really majorly affected my life but it has helped me create a discipline for myself. Earlier there was a discipline of getting up early, rushing to work, working whole day and then coming back again, traveling and then tired and fagged out and not able to do anything. But an entrepreneur life I think, has given me lot of me time and it has made me think and implement in my life more regular schedules than could’nt be with my job life in the past.
And it is. Really an awesome life. Because if you can give yourself time to learn, time to grow, time to yourself to relax, chill, and time to yourself to be able to help and change other people’s lives and still make money in the bargain.
So that is what entrepreneur life has given me. Of course a life changing experience and being an entrepreneur has given me a lot of independence, more self confidence, more recognition, more trust of others, more faith and very popular among peer circles, among business networks, among social communities, among peers, among old colleagues and known and new connects and among business circles and it is a really awesome life.
It is always celebrating life on a daily basis.
The best part is it has made me more responsible, more disciplined and more alert of what I do and where I may be spending some IRA time as compare to the IPA!!
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
My biggest motivation in life has always been the happiness or the satisfaction I have been able to give as last mile end product to my customers, where it has increased their belief, their trust, their faith in me. And it has also given me, to a great extent, some popularity, some recognition and some great acknowledgment that whatever I do is great work and it is really out of this world.
So when somebody acknowledges that and blesses you that oh, I had a wow feeling and God really bless you.
So that is what keeps me going motivating every day to make yet another call whom did I forget to call? Whom did I forget to assist? Whom did I forget? Over the past few days I haven’t connect,so that’s how it brings about me to going out and connecting with more and more people through more and more networks and that has become a way of life today.
HOW DO YOU GENERATE NEW IDEAS?
How do I generate new ideas? Well, you don’t really need to create new ideas all the time. It might be required maybe when you want to use technology and make the most of it. It may be required when you want to upgrade your product, or it may be required when you just have to reach a particular target audience.
But otherwise, if you have a technology which is ever dynamic, and if you have a technology which is actually helping people in a big way, a new technology, then you don’t have to really create new ideas or new thinking from your end. You adapt it and help people adapt it and that will help sustain for at least coming next one decade. New ideas can be new innovations in trying to reach people and it’s always a challenge that comes up your way and then you have to automatically think about a solution which becomes a new idea.
So it’s more of practical experience and practical utility and trying to do your work well, that automatically generates new ideas. You don’t really have to sit and think, oh, I need to create a new idea today, so what do I do? It doesn’t work like that.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR, AND HOW DO YOU MANAGE FEAR?
What is my greatest fear and how do I overcome it? I think being a very bold and independent and educated and capable lady, I don’t believe I have fears. But one fear where I help people big way with healthcare is always that I know I am there for somebody in need. So sometimes when I fall sick and I am left alone so then that is the fear that, if I get more sick and what if somebody isn’t there next to me to help me or support me? So always well being is what I try to the maximum; trying to minimize any kind of medications in my life to further reduce more complications in health if I have more medicines.
But yes, taking care of myself really is one way. So when I fall sick and instead of getting scared or feared about what will happen, I immediately seek help. And I immediately connect with the best of the doctors in my community who know me, whom I have worked with, who have always supported me and even like I do for people in the middle of the night, they also stand by me in the middle of the night.
And that is what helps me overcome my fear that if in case by chance I fall sick, I am still being taken care of because I know whom to call and I know who can help.
WHAT ARE YOUR IDEALS?
Ideals in life!! Taking it further from the above question of fear, I think having ideals in life is also at times scary because you stick to I want integrity from everyone and I want everyone to be trustworthy and I want everyone to be very truthful and I want everyone to be not playing any political games with me. So having ideals in life, yes, we can have lot of thought processes, ideas but you are not unique.
The world is not unique. Everybody in this world is perfect. So I think today when I think back about this question about what are my ideals? I don’t think I should have some very rigid ideals in life.
But yes, passion in profession and being very sincere and selfless in whatever you do will help you reach that one ultimate goal in life that will be called as success, happiness and achievement with lots of abundance.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
Interestingly definition of success for me is I have a good night’s sleep. I am satisfied with myself, with the kind of work or help or support I’ve been able to give people. And I have money in my pocket which I can spend for whatever I need to be spending on including some kind of safety.
Generally, I love to invest in gold. So anytime a big lump sum comes in and it is invested in gold, which is my future security because even today people say that gold is one of the best investments you can ever make in your life. And success for me is abundance.
I have good two to three meals a day. I am fit, I am fine and I’m still able to go out and help people and do the best in whatever I do or I can. So that is success to me.
Happiness, contentment and abundant.
DO YOU BELIEVE THERE IS SOME SORT OF PATTERN OR FORMULA TO BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR?
I wouldn’t really say there is a pattern to becoming a successful entrepreneur, but I will definitely say, yes, there is a successful formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur. And that, I will say is if you are confident, if you are strong, if you are passionate about whatever challenge you are helping people solve in their lives, then bend all the rules. Try new ways.
Be bold, be daring. And do it in such a way whatever you wish to do so that it impacts a larger population where the belief, the trust begins. So the common terminology of herd mentality, so try making a point on that.
So when you are able to change a herd mindset, it will become a policy fact, truth in a lot of people’s lives. And that is how you can really push your enterprise forward. Because belief comes only when it is practiced.
Practice for getting people to practice. You have to reach people. Once you reach people, you have to really make them understand how is it that you can impact their lives and solve a big problem in their life.
I deal with healthcare. So healthcare will always be with every individual from the time we take our first breath till the time we die.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR?
My favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur? Well, Sochna Parega, because everything that I do, I like to do, I do. If I don’t like something, I will never involve. But I think my favorite aspect is also meeting a lot of people from different professions, from different walks of life and from all kinds of socioeconomic backgrounds.
May it be as huge as a diplomat from some consulate, some council general, or it could be just going to my housemaid’s family and having to interact with her grandchildren at some point of time. So meeting different kinds of people and being able to think about, okay, fine, somebody has a pet. Maybe something which is helping human lives may be able to impact pet lives too, and make a difference to them.
Because after all, we can talk, they can’t. So, yes, meeting new people, going to new places, and the most exciting or motivating to me is always traveling. So the minute I have a planned holiday, I know I am going to go all out in that.
And I might take years together to plan a holiday. But if I plan a holiday, that is a real freak out experience to me. And I love doing it.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST SATISFYING MOMENT IN BUSINESS?
My most satisfying experience in business is seriously when you don’t charge someone and you’re doing something to change someone’s life, maybe giving a craniosacral therapy session, and they have a blissful moment or an experience, and when they get up and get aware again they just simply profusely wholeheartedly give you all those blessings and best wishes, you go to a very tangible blissful moment of huge impact of satisfaction in your life and that is the best time in my life in the business that I do. Sometimes you love to do things for people not for money but for the happiness aspect. So the joy, the satisfaction, the bond you build with that one person when you are making a difference in their lives is what is just simply awesome, unbelievable and really there is no words to explain such an experience which really lasts you for a lifetime.
WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO COLLEGE GRADUATES WHO WANT TO BECOME ENTREPRENEURS?
Ah, college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs. Lot of ample opportunities, lot of ample thought processes being imbibed into them in their college lives, in their student lives and they have very fresh minds. So first and foremost is go and do some community work, go and do some social service, go and understand the ground level reality of people’s lives around you.
And when you do that it is going to be a big change in your attitudes, in your mindsets, in your comfort levels. Then look for one question which really bugged you when you were out in the community to do some kind of a social impact initiative. Don’t charge for whatever you try to do as social service.
But when you do that, look out for one challenge, one question, one problem you would like to solve, and create an enterprise. Create entire movement which you can run over the next 20 years and ensure that that challenge in the community is permanently resolved very economically, very conveniently and in a very simple way. That is a big thing you can do.
And that is where you will have big challenges solved, big questions in your front which will make you think and which will make you bring your young minds innovations as a new technology, as a disruption to solve that one problem in the community at large.
IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO START YOUR CAREER OVER AGAIN, WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?
Me. Oh, if I had the chance to start my career all over again. I think right in the beginning of my career I would learn how to be very diplomatic in life because that is what I always think as being diplomatic is being a hypocrite.
And that mindset is very difficult for me to change, even today. But if I had diplomacy, maybe I would have been at a much higher point of success. I mean, professional designation wise, if I was a working woman in the past 30 years of my working career.
But no regrets, because today, if I had not been the way I was, probably I wouldn’t have an enterprise of my own. I wouldn’t be the founder of an enterprise. And life’s purpose always kept pushing me towards my purpose even though we don’t identify it.
So good I didn’t go hunting for a life purpose or I wouldn’t be here today being able to independently think and change people’s lives the way I am doing today.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE TOP THREE SKILLS NEEDED TO BE A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR?
Top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneurial passion, dedication, selfless service. Rest of the world will come to your feet.
WHAT ENTREPRENEURIAL TRICKS HAVE YOU DISCOVERED TO KEEP YOU FOCUSED AND PRODUCTIVE IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY BUSY SCHEDULE?
Entrepreneur skills or tricks that i have discovered to stay focussed and productive, before you burn out or before you get exhausted, exasperated, before you get flagged out and get too much pressed upon, you go dump everything, forget everything, may be get a good massage, pamper yourself, take a meditation session or simply take a day off.
Chill, relax, collect yourself together, because if you are not in your core, whatever you try will reflect your attitude and your energies into your enterprise and pull you and your venture down. So go all out, cheer up, pep yourself up, give a good shake off to yourself, de-stress. If you like to watch a movie, go watch it, go alone if it may be go do it, doesn’t matter whatever stupid movie, doesn’t make any sense what is the content of the movie – it’s just that you have some extra me time, you start thinking something different, have a change of mind, of mood, of mindset & thinking something different from that which will pull you down and what is really bothering you at the core.
When you forget something’s for sometime it automatically brings out solutions in your mind for that one impossible proposition that was happening at that point of time. Just own yourself, for sometime and everything will return back and resolve itself.
WHAT KEY ACTIVITIES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ENTREPRENEURS TO INVEST THEIR TIME IN?
Key activities I will recommend entrepreneurs to invest their time in Is. Find an idea, make a good plan, discuss your plan with your well wishers. Whether it is your teachers, it is your best of long lost friends, whether it is your mentors, whether it is your own peer, discuss your plans, formalize it, make your life simple with the plans of your entrepreneur enterprise.
And you invest in time, in learning whatever is the latest, whatever is your competitors. This is initially but this you will have to continue all through your enterprise. So that you can create that niche, you can create that curve, you can create that uniqueness in your enterprise and give that even if it is a 1% extra than others.
