BORN TO BE A WINNER
27th February 2024 was a very significant day where 135 special children gathered at the Nehru Centre, Worli to participate in an Unique art contest.

This contest was organised by Mrs Nina Rege, Asst Director, Nehru centre gallery with for the 28th consecutive year. Ably supported by Mr Rao and Mr Deepak.

A proud moment for Mrs Sanjukta Barik, renowned Contemporary Artist, to be invited as Guest and Judge to the contest.
A very very difficult task she quoted, As each one was a shining star.

The hall was filled with students from below 12 years to 16 plus years with mild to severe disabilities, from being mentally challenged to physically challenged.
So much positive energy as they sat and coloured, sketched painted and made clay models. With complete concentration on their assigned task.

It was very heartening to see so much talent emerge here. Who can see that these children are challenged? Some of the student’s art expression was far superior than a normal human being.
Their sense of perception being a bar higher to be able to bring out such a special expression on their chosen medium.

The artworks spoke of emotions and one could feel the art as you visualised it.

The 135 special children were from the schools listed below :

Save the children special care centre
Late Smt Usha Jamnekar Mookdhwani Vidhyalaya
Lokmanya Seva Sangh
Kalyandeep KC Nanavaty special school
Jai Vakeel Foundation
Happy Hope school for blind
SPJ Sadhana school
Smt Kamala Mehta school for blind.
A special recognition goes out to the teachers who work selflessly to teach and train these children with special care day after day.

It was a proud day for each teacher who accompanied the children to see their students express so well.
Kudos to Mrs Nina Rege to meticulously plan and execute this Art contest. And hope that this event grows larger with every passing year with more and more students coming forward with their special skills.
