Enchanting spree of “Holika Basanta Utsav” with Sangam Music Club of Andheri,Mumbai

Burning Holika,symbolise asura. For many traditions in India Holi celebrates the killing of Holika to save Prahlad, a devotee of God Vishnu and thus Holi gets its name. People used to contribute a piece of wood or two for the Holika bonfire, and this represents Holika being consumed by the fire in which she tried to kill her nephew Prahlad.Most of the parts of India the day is actually called Holika Dehan. There are other activities but the burning of Holika is the one that we can directly refer with Holi. Fire burnt on the eve of Holi (Holika Dahan) symbolizes the burning of Holika.pyre is lit, signifying Holika Dahan. The ritual symbolises the win of good over evil forces. People sing,mary and dance around the fire.

The next day people play Holi, the popular festival of colors. Rupasree Bhattacharya render her brilliant voice in Bengali ragprodhan and adhunik.
In bengal Dol Purnima or Dol Jatra is a major festival. This festival is dedicated to Sri Krishna. On this auspicious day, an image of Krishna, richly decorated and besmeared with colored powder (Abir in Bengali and assam and Odisha), is taken out in procession in a swinging palanquin, decorated with flowers, leaves, colored clothes and papers.The procession proceeds to the accompaniment of music, trumpets and shouts of ‘Hari Bol’ and ,Hare Krishna’.
Dol Purnima is very significant for Bengalis, because this very day is the birthday of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. A great Vaishnava saint, who popularized modern “Harinam sankirtana”. He elevated the passion of Radha Krishna with a high spiritual level. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu believed that the essence of sadhana is always the loving remembrance of Hari.
This year Sangam Music Club of Andheri Mumbai consisted mostly Bengali community who stay away from homeland and settled in Mumbai celebrated”Dol Utsav”the “Holika celebration” festival of colours or in other word “Basanta Utsav” with very colourful and flamboyant way.
Sangam music club is very popular and played a significant role in music and sincerely perform the traditional festivals of Bengals, which is a proverb in bengali language “Baro mase tero parbon” mostly related with 12 months ,six seasons 13 festival.
All participants and spectators wearing colorfull shari based on basanti color similer with the color of spring flower “palash”and yellow color garlend in hair with matching jewelleries.Men are with their colourful attire.The dress code is a symbol to celebrate the festival of colours.
Rabindranath Tagore who is icon of culture specially in Bengal as well as in India wrote and compose huge enchanting melodious songs of springs.He Introduced “Basanta Utsav” in his Viswabharati University at Bolpur ,Santiniketan in West Bengal, in his life time.That tradition continue not only in Santiniketan, Bengalee community deeply influenced and follow him every where where they celebrate.
The cultural program of Holy.
The program started with the two chorus songs of Tagore “Ore Griha Basi” and “Fagun hawai hawai” inviting springs. The chorus songs augmented with flamboyant dance of Gargi Nandi and others.The deft singers of Sangam music club not confined with only Tagore they perform various songs of different genre related with spring or Basanta in bengali and Hindi.
Sreerupa Ghosh Who initiated and organise this program a renowned singer with her enchanting voice perform solo songs.
Paramita chatterjee a Viswabharati ex student performed brillantly with traditional Tagore gharana.Atul prasad song is treated in same stature like tagore sung by Rita Bandyopadhyay .Gautam Ghosh created different mood with UP based Holy song and with remind us the great Singer of Begam akhter and bengalee legand singer Manabendra Mukhopadhyay’s song. Bhajan of Sri Krishna sung by Ragesree Deb a vetaren singer with her melodious tune.
Meanwhile while Tagore song again in stage by Rinku Das,Sreerupa Bhattacharya,Dalia Roy ,Urmi Sarkar and Prasanta Bose and Prasanta kumar pal, separately with chorus create the ambiance of Holi utsav.Gargi Nandi a versatile genius in performing artist as an actress, elocutionist surprised the audience with her flamboyant performance as a dancer ,Dancing with Rabindrasangeet and created the new blend in program.Partha Roy reminds Manna Dey with “Okeno eto Sundari holo” All beautiful ladies present there brighten and blush with the song.After the break with tea and snacks .Puja of Holy and burning holika with rituals attracted the audience .The audience created “Uludhoni” a sound create by tounge indicate auspicious thing happens.After the break, time for Dance and song with popular holy hindi songs and folk songs.Anirudh Rana a professional singer,actor, dubbing artist start the song “Rang de barase” with big hits of sixties and seventies like “jay jay shiv shankar “etc Sreerupa Bhattacharya joined in singing duo with Anirudh. The whole audience with the spree of his song dance,dance and dance,like waves in the sea. Make the program magnificent.Prasanta Kumar Pal by profession a Diamond Marchent but a passionate versatile singer who regularly sing in Ramkrishna mission,mumbai and others.with Again return to stage with a very popular Bengali folk song ” Sadher lau banailo more boiragi” Fag end of program this rythemic bengali folk exited the audience and compell them to dance spree.The magnificent program ends with a chorus song of tagore but the program remain forever and heart touching to everyone.The whole program co ordinate and anchor by Jishu Mitra who reminds the poetic line of tagore,jibanananda,Sunil Gangopadhyay,shakti chattopadhyay,purnendu patri. The blending of poetry and song makes it a true fervor of Basanta Utsav and poetic justice to the program.The Tabla Mastero Basudev Saha and leading guitarist of Mumbai Ronno spellbound the audience with their spell of melodious Music.Rupasree Bhattacharya render her brilliant voice in Bengali ragprodhan and adhunik. Nibedita sarkar sang nil digante create the mood of basanta and Ratna Dutta Roy accompanied in duo with Rinku Das basante phul gathlo enchanted all.

A program to be remember in Mumbai Nagari.
